OUR FOCUS: WORDS MATTER
We develop our reading skills far beyond just reading words and remembering what they say. Our goal is to take reading to the next level in order to determine what the words reveal about us, the author and our world. Why do those words matter? How do they shape society's beliefs and shape history?
We take our writing skills to the next level and learning our written thoughts don't serve the purpose of getting good grades or passing a state exam. Those tools hold us accountable so we can see our improvement, but the words we write MATTER in our world. Not only do the authors we read shape society with their words, but you can shape your world through well-written thoughts!
The most important results of reading and writing is that those skills vastly improve our critical thinking skills. Critical thinking is simply pulling from our brain files of information to understand new information, evaluation a problem to develop a solution, or analyze an issue to form our own informed judgement.
Learning isn't real until you apply your knowledge and share it with the world in authentic ways. Now sometimes we will have to do traditional classroom tasks (like discussions, assignments, essays, or exams), but the purpose of those assignments is simply to build your understanding so you are ready to present your knowledge to the world in a way that impacts society.
